SIGHT READING FOR THE CLASSICAL GUITAR!

1) Steps to Sight Reading

Before pursuing sight-reading, you should have a good grasp of

- Basic Music Theory

see www.sethescalante.com/basicmusictheory for my lessons on Basic Music Theory

- How to Read Tabs

see www.sethescalante.com/introtoguitar - LESSON 3 for my lessons on 'How to Read Tabs:

- What is the first position rule?

Hover your fingers over the frets in this order:

The first finger hovers over the first string (Which is the bottom string of the guitar, high 'E')

The second finger hovers over the Second string (B)

The third finger hovers over the Third string (G)

The fourth finger hovers over the Fourth string (D)

The fifth finger hovers over the Fourth string (A)

The sixth finger hovers over the Fourth string (E)

- The strings of the guitar and their names

The names of the strings on the Guitar are:

E A D G B E

the Bottom string of the guitar is the first string

1st string - E

2nd string - B

3rd string - G

4th string - D

5th string - A

6th string - E

A good exercise for achieving a strong left hand is to let all your fingers go on their respective frets all on the 6th string at the same time and simply holding this position for a long period of time,
